How much does it cost?
It only costs $80 for the standard BRAT annual membership. Learn more about membership & fees.
Do I need to join TriNSW to join BRAT Club?
No, but it is strongly recommended if you are doing triathlon training. Membership of TriNSW provides many benefits, in particular 24/7 personal accident/injury insurance coverage while competing in or training for a sanctioned triathlon event. Also, you will be supporting the sport you love. For more information visit TriNSW.
Where do BRATs train?
All over the eastern suburbs, running along the beach at Bondi, cycling in Centennial Park and beyond, and swimming at Icebergs and across Bondi bay. It's a perfect training playground!
I'd love to try triathlon, is it hard?
No, but there can be a lot to learn, so it certainly helps to learn from experienced competitors who are more than happy to lend their support and encouragement. See details on our Buddy system.
What training is available?

How do I find out about races in and around Sydney which the BRATs compete in?
Through BRAT flashes we will keep you posted on upcoming events which are members maybe interested in. These generally include all running events in and around Sydney and triathlons. You can be guaranteed that BRAT members will attend various races around country
I haven’t ridden a bike in years and don’t know the rules.
Attached is a document outlining the rules for BRAT bunch rides. Please familiarise yourself with this as each individual is responsible for the safety of the bunch. When attending BRAT rides make yourself known to the coaches to ensure you are placed in a group with at similar level of ability.
Do I have to be good at running or have done triathlon before?
No, certainly not. The club welcomes all levels of ability and experience, and is the ideal place for complete beginners to get started.
Swimming terrifies me, but I'd like to do a triathlon, what do you think?
Umm, this describes many rookies! No fear, local coaches run excellent beginner-level stroke-correction courses and swimming squads that will have you exiting the water in decent shape, and not feeling too lonely on the bike leg.
I am a runner, is the BRAT Club right for me?
Many of our members are runners only, with no intention of ever getting involved in triathlon. Be warned though, many seasoned BRAT runners have found themselves lurking around the bike shops.
What type of bike should I buy?
It important to buy a bike that fits you, so we recommend you visit your local cycle store or see the friendly staff at Bikebug, our official sponsor. who will be more than happy to provide advice and assistance.
How do I know if the BRAT club is right for me?
The BRAT club has been around the eastern suburbs since 1971 and currently has over 500 hundred members, starting at juniors up to all ages, from the weekend warrior to elite professionals. There is a strong sense of camaraderie amongst our members which can be seen at training sessions and races. Support is provided where ever necessary - all you need to do is ask!
